In planning my first trip to Turkey in the month of September I bought for the first time Turkey (Eyewitness Travel Guides). By buying other books in the series (Egypt, India), I was a general idea of what to expect. The Eyewitness series usually provides an overview of a country or region, with many pictures, some cultural awareness “sections, and the story a bit less than I personally like. However, it is that I’m not really sure wanted to see what I am after Istanbul was, I thought it was a good start.
As expected, Eyewitness: Turkey is an overview of the country with great photos and a regional breakdown of Nice has provided. The book covers most, if not all major cities and historical sites, and offered some background on the history of the pages themselves to by the type of holiday planning beginning, it seems this book to work well, gives me pictures of sites that I wanted to see and suggesting different types of accommodations. However, once I decided I wanted to go to Ephesus, the book offered me nothing for the logistics and I stayed to find out for myself.
Overall, I am not really go with this book after the first phase of planning and not even bother with me on vacation, after I bought Istanbul Rick Steves’ to my three days in the capital, and finally book a private tour of Ephesus and environment.
Eyewitness: Turkey has a small unit against that of Istanbul, which was adequate and provided a list of historic sites usual, a picture tour of St. Sophia and Topkapi Palace, and that was a list of real estate. Some of the other sections, as Ankara had more to what to see and do, but nothing will happen, and not much about history.
I really can not hate on eyewitness: Turkey too much, because I knew what I received when I ordered it, and that is exactly what I have. In fact, I think it was one of the witnesses books in more depth, but after the Rick Steves’ Istanbul, I have not even touch.
This book is best suited for your holiday planning early, and if you take a tour of Turkey as a whole. There is not for those who like to move and other concerns of the “do-it-yourself travelers.
